How to add Rich Snippets in your Website

The Rich Snippets , technically Semantic Markups are designed by Search Engines to create a structured data of webpages and extract the information through XML Schema. There are 3 kind of Rich Snippets used widely in WWW.

  1. Microformats
  2. Microdata
  3. RDFa(Resource Description Framework in Attributes)

and Google mostly recommends Microdata. And this may be because of,’s Microdata is Google’s own initiative along with Microsoft and Yahoo. All these Rich Snippets follow different syntaxes and work with your HTML code. So, your single web document can contain all these three markups. Apart from this verified Google Authorship is also an important markup for web pages to increase trust for search engines and readers as well.

How much do Rich Snippets impact the Search Engines?

These Semantic Markups used in Google are called as Google’s Rich Snippets. Currently, the search results by Google is not as same as earlier, Google and other search engines striving hard to be more user friendly in providing search results. When you drop a search query related to product review, you can see the star ratings from the webpages displayed in search results. Steps to add Rich Snippets in your Website

To add rich snippets to WordPress website, there are many useful wp plugins for adding rich snippets, microdata and microformats. Here are the list of best wp plugins for Rich Snippets:

  2. All In One Rich Snippets
  3. Schema Creator by Raven
  4. Breadcrumb Trail

For other Web platform users say., Blogger, Magneto and HTML5 Google Webmasters tool provides the Structured Data Testing Tool and Structures Data Markup Helper. The first one, testing tool helps you the see the preview of your web page in search results to check whether it is displayed with rich snippets are not.

  1.  Follow the link, select the data type of the webpage.
  2. Enter the target webpage URL. If you want to directly add with HTML page just paste the HTML code.
  3. Start tagging webpage for the following fields displayed in the right side bar.
  4. Click “view HTML” to view the generated Microdata tags(highlighted) along with the HTML of the web document.
  5. Just add those markups in your webpage and publish it. 

Many asks me, that even adding these rich snippets they are not visible in Google SERPs and like preview found before. The main reason is considered as, Google’s lack of trust on websites. After adding rich snippets resubmit the webpage using Fetch as Google option from Google Webmaster tools. Making more similar web content on the same niche and increase in user ratings with boost the rate of rich snippets visibility for webpages in Google SERPs.
