How to Optimize your BlogSpot Setup
1. Make a custom domain on Blogger/BlogSpot
If you are planning to create a brand for your Blog, then definitely you need a Custom Domain. It’s also best way for professional blogging and good for SEO. Buying a custom domain name is one part, you need to host it on famous CMS like WordPress or Blogger/BlogSpot. Here, we are discussing about better using your Blog on Blogger/Blogspot Platform.
Once you live your Blog, its time to redirect your blog on your own domain. Follow these steps to redirect your blog to your custom domain:
Step 1: In your Blogger Dashboard, Go to Settings → Basics → Blog Address → Add a custom domain.
Step 2: In Advanced settings, add your custom domain URL. Say., www.yourdomain.
Step 3: Now, login your Domain Provider account. Here, I headed towards my GoDaddy user account and logged in. Then go to DNS Settings → Editor. And change your CNAME Records with the instructions given by the above image.
Point www to ghs.google.com and next name followed by it. This changes for each and every domain, so follow the instructions generated for you. Once you added your Zone file save them. Then click Save to do redirection.
Step 4: Once the redirection occurs, click edit to Redirect yourdomain.com to www.yourdomain.com to avoid 404 error.
Attribution, as it literally means it is used to mention the blog that is “Powered by Blogger”. In general, you can add your Blog name to provide credits to Blogger. In some cases, if you want to hide or remove them, its not remove directly in our layout. Follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Go to your Blogger Dashboard, Template → Edit HTML.
Step 2: Click, ctrl+F to find “Attribution” and change to locked=”true” to false and Save your Template.
Step 3: Now, to can remove or change the location of the widget anywhere on your Blog.
You can’t completely remove the Navbar, whereas you can Turn Off them. Just click “Off” and save the Widget.
3. Configuring Search Preferences to Add Meta Description and [Many More]
Meta Description: Site’s Description is very much important for every particular Blog, but most of the newbie bloggers are not paying proper attention towards it. Just a random scribble in description area will ruin your blog in search preferences. So, Help visitors to witness about your blog in search results by writing a perfect description in “Meta Description” with necessary keywords.
Set custom 404 error page: Most of the Blogger Templates have its own 404 Redirection page. Even if it’s not there in your Template, you can add custom 404 error redirection. Look the image below:
Setup a Static HomePage: Next comes the “Custom redirection”. It lies just below the “Custom Page Not Found” option what we have seen above. Using this, you can redirect any wrong external links pointing to your blog post URL’s. Just Add the existing link URL in “From” and destination link URL in “To”. Tick the Permanent option to make a permanent URL Redirection and Save your changes. Okay! what’s the point of mentioning the Title “Setup Static HomePage“?
Here’s the answer for you, Apart from niche blogs, websites need static HomePage to keep a Portfolio, About page etc. This is the important reason, why more websites not using Blogger.Follow the Steps to Setup a Static HomePage:
Step 1: Create a blank “New Page” and add the stuff you want to display in HomePage.
Step 2: Make use of “Custom URL Redirection” as we discussed above. Look at the image below:
3. Setting Custom ROBOTS.TXT and ROBOT Header Tags
